What is a general surgeon?
A "General Surgeon" is a specialist who has completed five to seven years of specialty training in the field of surgery. The training encompasses the entire body. Common examples of general surgery include hernia repair, gallbladder removal, adrenalectomy, and weight loss surgery, In addition to years of training in general surgery, the doctors at Affiliated Clinical Surgeons have undergone additional training in their respective sub-specialties including pancreatic surgery, thyroid surgery, breast surgery, cancer surgery, bariatric surgery and laparoscopic surgery.

Consulting with a general surgeon does not always mean that you will need to have surgery. General surgery specialists are trained to diagnose and recommend the most appropriate therapy. Often this may be a nonsurgical treatment meant to avoid the need for surgery.

What will happen at my first appointment?
What happens at your first appointment will depend on the reason for your visit. For certain types of appointments, we may require some preparation, but you will be informed of this at the time your appointment is scheduled.

Regardless of the reason for your appointment, you will need to bring any medical records detailing your diagnosis and prior treatment for the condition. If you have questions about this, please contact our office for more information. In addition, you will be asked to complete some forms detailing your general medical condition. You have the option of printing these forms and bringing the filled out information with you to your first appointment.
